Cane Corso

A large, powerful Italian guardian mastiff - intelligent, intensely loyal to its family and naturally protective, with a serious, watchful temperament. The Cane Corso is an impressive, devoted companion for experienced owners who appreciate a dog with depth of character, low-maintenance short coat and a strong bond to its people.
Origin and purpose
The Cane Corso descends from ancient Italian mastiff-type dogs used on farms to guard property and livestock, hunt large game and drive cattle. The breed nearly vanished in the mid-20th century and was revived by Italian enthusiasts from the 1970s, gaining international recognition only relatively recently.
Temperament
Breed authorities describe the Corso as intelligent, even-tempered and deeply loyal, a natural protector that is reserved with strangers and devoted to its people. It needs confident, consistent leadership and thorough socialisation from puppyhood. This is a serious working guardian, not a casual pet — and, as for all dogs, the individual and its upbringing matter more than the breed label (Morrill et al., Science 2022).

Climate & exercise in Johor Bahru
Johor Bahru is equatorial; hot and humid year-round (27–34°C); similar climate to Singapore 1km across the Tebrau Strait; sea breeze at Danga Bay provides relief in mornings and evenings. walk before 8:30am or at Danga Bay waterfront from 5:30pm where sea breeze is consistent; avoid midday — pavement surfaces reach 50°C+ in direct sun. JB's equatorial climate is essentially identical to Singapore's — year-round heat and humidity, with heatstroke risk for brachycephalic and double-coated breeds at any time outside the early-morning window. Parasite prevention
Plan for year-round heartworm and tick prevention essential; peri-urban areas (Tebrau, Tampoi, Skudai) adjacent to palm oil plantation and secondary forest have high tick density; Ehrlichia canis and Babesia species documented across Johor; leptospirosis risk in flood-prone residential drains.
